As a university that rises from the southern most part of the country, Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi is striving to be in par with the other institutions. In fact, for the past years, it had planned many projects that caters to the needs of the students, teachers, and its staffs. One of the factors it looks at is the international linkages for partnerships. One of the linkage it established is with the Kastamonu University of Turkey. Just recently, particularly February 11, 2019, it sent two faculty members to Institut Pertanian Bogor in Jakarta, Indonesia to attend a meeting which could potentially benefit the College of Fisheries of both universities. Prof. Jurma A. Tikmasan (Dean, College of Fisheries) and Dr. Surma J. Werble (Director, Office of International Linkages) represented MSU Tawi-Tawi to Institut Pertanian Bogor to identify areas of possible collaboration and complementation of programs and researches.
On February 15, 2019, Prof. Tikmasan and Dr. Werble met with Ibu Dini Novian, Secretary of Dr. Luky Adrianto. They were accompanied by Ibu Novian to the university campus of Institut Pertanian Bogor where they finally met Dr. Adrianto. It was a one day meeting where Dr. Adrianto presented a powerpoint slides showing and explaining the background of Institut Pertanian Bogor, their academic programs, ratings, vision, mission, goals, and accomplishments. The MSU Tawi-Tawi also showcased its promotional video which includes the mission, vision, and goals of the said university. After the meeting, Dr. Werble and Prof. Tikmasan were toured around the campus by Dr. Julie Ekasari. Lastly, Dr. Adrianto accompanied them to meet the Director of International Collaboration Office (ICO), Prof. Iskandar Z. Siregar.
After the meeting, both universities were able to identify areas of collaboration and partnership which focuses on exchange programs and research. Two particular collaborations are International joint course and International collaboration research.
Aside from this, the two representatives of MSU Tawi-Tawi were also able to meet with Tazkia University where they were also able to discuss possible scholarship slot that MSU Tawi-Tawi can avail of for the students. The Tazkia University also sent their qualification standard and requirement for MSU Tawi-Tawi students who would want to seek scholarship in their university. Also on the side trip is a visit to DAQU (Darul Qur’an University) at Tangerang, Bogor where they also sought for possible collaborations and partnerships. However, because it was only a short visit, they weren’t able to identify forms of linkages for now.
As of the moment, MSU Tawi-Tawi seeks more collaboration especially on the field of Fishery and Marine Science since it is the thrust of the university. Having said that, it does not leaves off the other fields as well as it continuously look our for more possible partnership with any university, institution, and organization. The university is trying to reach out to the others in hopes of opening opportunities for students, teachers, and staffs alike.
